What is Zen Kloud?
Zen Kloud sends photos, videos, documents and other files between devices. Keep Zen Kloud open and both devices online during the handoff.
What is a Kloud?
A Kloud is a temporary pairing room that helps devices find each other. Floating files belong to the current session. Use Download or Save As to keep a copy on your device.
Which devices can I use?
Use the iPhone or Mac app, or open the web app in a compatible browser on Windows, Mac or mobile.
How do I connect two devices?
Open People & Spaces → + or Add a device. Generate a code on one device and enter it on the other, scan the QR code, or open the invitation link. Share invitations only with intended recipients. A code works once and expires within 10 minutes. A temporary Kloud lasts up to 24 hours.
Why do I see a second code when sending?
The pairing code joins the room. The six-digit connection code helps verify the transfer. Compare the digits on both devices and cancel if they differ. File contents start moving after the sender confirms and the recipient accepts.
Do files go through Zen Kloud’s servers?
New direct transfers send file names, types, sizes and contents through the encrypted connection between the two devices. The server hosts the app, manages room access and passes short-lived setup messages that can contain network addresses. Older uploads used Cloudflare R2 cloud storage and retain their legacy download path.
How is a transfer protected?
A WebRTC data channel encrypts traffic in transit. Comparing the connection code helps verify the intended device. The recipient checks the byte count and a SHA-256 digest, a digital fingerprint of the file, before confirming delivery.
Do both devices need the same Wi-Fi?
Different networks work when a direct connection is possible. If pairing works but sending stalls, keep both apps open and try the same Wi-Fi or another network. Zen Kloud currently has no relay for blocked connections.
Which files can I send, and how large can they be?
Send photos, videos, WAVs, PDFs, ZIPs and other files. The receiving device needs an app that opens the format. Limits are 100 MiB per file (about 105 MB), up to 200 MiB and 100 temporary files per device session, and one active transfer per device.
Where do downloaded files go?
Mac: Download saves to Downloads. Save As lets you drag the file to another Finder folder.
iPhone: Download saves to Files → On My iPhone → Zen Kloud → Downloads. Save As opens the Files picker.
Web: The browser controls where downloads go. Supported browsers offer a destination picker for Save As.
What happens if I close Zen Kloud or remove a file?
Unsaved files can disappear when you close, refresh or switch Klouds. Removing a floating file clears it from the session. Copies already downloaded stay on the device.
What are Favorites and Spaces?
Favorites make familiar devices easier to find. Spaces save groups so you can open a shared room again. Both save relationships between devices, and files still need to be downloaded to keep them.
Why does the scanner say “Camera unavailable”?
On iPhone, enable Zen Kloud under Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera, then scan on the phone itself. In a mobile browser, check the site’s camera permission. You can also use a pairing code or invitation link.
Do I need an account or a paid plan?
Direct transfers are free and require no account signup. Zen Kloud uses a device identity to recognize saved relationships. Paid plans and persistent file storage are unavailable in the current release.
